With so many options for treatment out there how do you choose the one that is best for you? One of the newest members to the ONWC team, Osteopathic Manual Practitioner Blake, breaks down two of the most common questions he gets about treatment.
What is Manual Osteopathy?
Manual Osteopathy is a noninvasive hands-on treatment that includes an understanding that there is a close relationship between the structure and function of the body. The body functions as a unit and the body is a capable self-healing mechanism. It offers a unique, gentle and caring approach aimed at treating causes not symptoms. By doing so, it aims to maximize the patient’s health so that their body can function as optimally as possible.
What To Expect During A Treatment?
Before coming to your first treatment, you are asked to bring clothing that you can move around in very easily as you will not be asked to disrobe. During your first treatment, you and the manual osteopath will sit down to discuss the reason of your visit. You will also go through a full health history so that they have a better understanding of you and your body. Following the history, the manual osteopath will preform certain orthopaedic tests, neurological tests and will go through your range of motion. This will be followed up by a treatment and a discussion about what was found during the assessment. From there you will be given a recommendation for your treatment and the expectations going forward.
